Sometimes it’s hard to give anyone your undivided attention when you come home from work. You feel so stressed out it’s impossible to think clearly. It can feel like you’re walking around like a zombie, which isn’t very fair on your kids.
You will need to find a way to fight your stress until the problem goes away. There are a couple of things you’ll be able to do while at work. Once you get home you will feel a hundred times better. Let’s discuss each tactic in a little more detail.
1. Eat Your Lunch Outside
If you’re trapped indoors all day it’s going to have a negative impact on your mood. Spend some time outside and you’ll feel a lot better. Don’t be one of those people who eats lunch while sitting at their desk.
Enjoy your sandwiches while sitting on a park bench. In summer you’ll be able to sit on the grass if you pack a blanket. Even if it’s raining outside you should still spend some time breathing in fresh air.
2. Learn How To Breathe
You should meditate at home before arriving at work, but it’s hard to do once you’re already there. I doubt your boss will like you staring at the screen with your eyes closed, but nobody can stop you from breathing.
If you haven’t learned how to breathe properly you’re probably doing it wrong. You have spent nearly all your life shallow breathing, so you’ll need to work hard if you want to stop doing it subconsciously.
3. Visit The Gym At Lunch
Dr Ryan Harvey, an after hours home GP says “exercise releases serotonin and endorphins, which lift a person’s overall mood.” It’s sad because most people think working out makes you tired.
Visit the gym at lunch and you’ll feel great by the time you sit back down at your desk. You don’t need to spend every last minute of your lunch exercising. A quick 15 minute cardio session is more than enough.
4. Socialize With People
You need to make more of an effort to socialize with people while at work. I’m not saying you need to sit with a big crowd at lunch, but don’t ignore anyone. Have you ever heard anyone say laughter is the best medicine?
It’s similar to exercise because it releases endorphins while battling cortisol and adrenaline. Don’t worry if you’re not a social butterfly. A small handful of employees always do most of the talking.
5. Don’t Drink Any Coffee
It seems like everyone is addicted to coffee because it perks you up. This is actually a terrible thing when it comes to stress. It will send your nervous system into overdrive and increase your heart rate.
I know you’ll be used to drinking at work, so you should turn to tea instead. There is still a small amount of caffeine inside each cup. Green tea is fantastic because it will make you feel more relaxed.
It’s Worth Putting In The Effort
If you put in the effort I’m sure your kids will appreciate it. You’ll start enjoying life a lot more too. Nothing we’ve touched on will difficult to implement, so get started straight away.
